Woodn't:
A Folk Art Extravaganza!

July 30 & 31, 2022

Woodworks (pop-up location)

There’s not enough whimsy in this town, someone recently said.

WOODN’T to the rescue: YK ARCC presents a folk art exhibit of creations built of wood and whimsy, part of the 2022 Old Town Ramble and Ride Festival.

If the word ‘whimsy’ makes you think of someone’s country club nickname, a female butler or an overweight calico cat then great! Because imaginative play is what WOODN’T is all about. Local plywood pals Diane Boudreau, Mike Mitchell and Sarah Swan, along with out-of-town guest artist Slo-toons, will be sharing their fun (and sometimes funny) wood art at a two-day exhibit in the Old Town. The ‘lumber party’ will be held at Woodworks, Bill Leard’s former carpentry shop on the Government dock and will feature all-new new wood-works that share not only a common material (wood) but a common message.

According to a smirking Mike Mitchell, “the pieces have been gathered in order to initiate dialogue about arboreal loss in a post-modern, post-truth context (not really). There will also be a bunch of plywood shoes, visual word jokes and brightly painted cut-outs.”

According to Sarah Swan, “folk art thumbs its long wooden nose at the politically-digitally-conceptually correct and overly-determined art of the day.”

We acknowledge and respect that we live and work in Chief Drygeese territory. From time immemorial, it has been the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.
