June 23 - September 15 2023
Yellowknife Visitor Centre Gallery
Curated by Sarah Swan
Co-presented with WAMP, Casey Koyczan is a Dene interdisciplinary artist from Yellowknife, currently living in Winnipeg. Indigenous Materials Walk Cycles made with VR and 3D software to bring them to life. This body of work was created by re-imagining materials from Denendeh and Indigenous culture as an embodiment of human and spiritual characteristics within a 3D environment. Drawing inspiration from moose/caribou hair tufting, beadwork, antler, dentalium shells, hide-tanning and quillwork, these renders showcase surreal interpretations of these materials, and how we relate to them.

We acknowledge and respect that we live and work in Chief Drygeese territory. From time immemorial, it has been the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.
