Reclaimed canoe seat and locally-harvested dried flora from the Yellowknife area, 2025-26

“Paddler’s Delight began with a broken canoe seat from Yellowknife’s Salvagers Facebook group! It was then deconstructed, glued, cleaned, and warped for weaving. Using diverse fibres including the original seat cord, art yarn, and some locally-foraged flora, I wove a late summer river scene depicting a pinky-orange sunset; a promise of calm waters the next day. My hope in creating this piece was to capture some of the magic of northern summer: long days, endless skies, vibrant landscapes, and the joy of being on the water.” - Shannon Crawley

“I knew I wanted to create a big piece, with a powerful message. Land Back can benefit every one. I used the iconic NT bear plate to help me capture eyes, and florals, berries and medicine to make this more powerful. You’ll see blueberries, sage leaves and fireweed.” - Amber Baton

“Hot Commodity”

“Leading up to Yellowknife’s August 2023 evacuation, jerry cans were in high need and short supply. Residents were preparing for evacuation and filling their vehicles with jerry cans of gas, personal valuables, pet supplies and food and water while waiting for confirmation to leave. This jerry can is a reminder not of evacuation but rather the hard work and preplanning of residents as they prepared to leave their lives and homes in Yellowknife.” - Shona Barbour

SOCIAL FABRIC is now open! Thanks to all our friends and fans who celebrated with us last week. The exhibit is on until the end of May and is full of super special pieces. We will post artwork pics soon :)
